Speculation and Conviction

The existence of the Abominable Snowman (also known as the Yeti) is an exciting concept.  The existence of Abominable Snow-men/women is even more exciting!  Just think of the little Abominable Snow-babies and Abominable snow-families.  This concept is not a new one and many believe it to be truth, but it has never been proved to be fact.  Just a single Abominable Snowman has also never been proved to exist.  We shall delve into this mystery and come up with a final conclusion!  This writer was born and raised in Alaska, so the Abominable Snowman has frequently been on my mind when traversing snow covered mountains and glaciers.  Have I seen sign or proof of this Abominable being?  No, but there have been some unexplained signs in the wilderness that do point to it being a possibility!  Some of us have seen the cartoons portraying the Abominable Snowman as a goofy and misunderstood beast, and the movies that portray the Yeti to be a murdering monster!  We will explore these notions and decide the temperament of the mysterious Yeti.  The reason that makes this topic so interesting to me is the fact that I believe the Abominable Snowman to exist!

Abominable Snow Babies?

Yes!  But before I begin to explain that, there is another question to be answered first:  Just what is the Abominable Snowman?  This creature also goes by the name of Yeti, Yeh-teh, and Raksha (Sanskrit for Demon).  There are plenty more names but the before mentioned are the most common.  According to Occultopedia.com, the Abominable Snowman is said to be around seven feet tall, and weigh close to three hundred pounds.  Contrary to popular belief, the Abominable Snowman is not white in color, but instead has dark fur, and is not a lone creature!  They are hairy and apelike, but they walk upright on two legs (Occultopedia.com).  A man named Bernard Heuvelmans wrote a book named; On the Track of Unknown Animals in 1958.  Bernard earned a doctorate in zoology and was Hell bent on finding the truth in reported zoological oddities.  Bernard suggested that the Abominable Snowman creatures may possibly be leftovers of the race of Pithecanthropus or “upright ape man” that occupied Southeast Asia during the Pliocene era (5.332 – 2.588 BCE).  Now onto the important question:  Is there more than one Abominable Snowman?  Well, common sense would have to indicate yes.  Otherwise the Abominable Snowman would be immortal!  According to the History Channel – In Search of the Abominable Snowman, the first documented sighting (from outsiders, not including the locals) of the Abominable Snowman was in 1857.  There have been many sightings since then, but an important one was in 1921 from an expedition led by Col. C.K. Howard-Bury climbing the North face of Mount Everest.  He had reported seeing a group of large creatures moving in the snow at the Laptha-La pass (Occultopedia.com).  Later in 1998 a U.S. climber named Craig Calmonica said he had seen two Yetis going down the Chinese side of Everest (abominablesnowman.co.uk).  More than one Abominable Snowman, how exciting!

Not Just Abominable, But Well Hidden

According to the History Channel - In Search of the Abominable Snowman, the sightings of the creature have been centered on Mount Everest.  Now I will begin my argument on why I believe the Abominable Snowman to exist.  The uninhabited land around Everest is vast.  There are hundreds of empty miles for a small group of Yetis to exist with very little contact from human beings.  There are many new animals being discovered every year as the human race continues to document and explore our world.  The Yeti is a creature yet to be discovered because of their shyness and the remote habitat they live in.  Even though the first documented sighting by an outsider was in 1957, the myth itself is ancient and has existed in the area for centuries (abominablesnowman.co.uk).  The local inhabitants are not speculators like us Westerners.  They believe the Yeti is real and speak about the creature in day to day tones.  The fact that outsiders are also spotting evidence of this creature leads us to believe the Abominable Snowman is not just a myth.  In 1925 a Greek photographer and member of the Royal Geographical Society names N.A. Tombazi glimpsed a creature he later described as “exactly like a human being, walking upright and stopping occasionally to uproot or pull some dwarf rhododendron bushes.”  Tombazi, who was at about 15,000 feet up the mountains on the Zemu Glacier, later reached the spot where he had sighted the creature only to also find some intriguing tracks in the snow (Occultopedia.com).  All of these people are well respected men, and imagining that they would make up a false story becomes hard to envision.

Abominable Snowman: Not Abominable?

The Abominable Snowman!  The name makes the creature sound truly terrible!  According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Abominable means: quite disagreeable or unpleasant.  Well, according to the History Channel – In Search of the Abominable Snowman, there have never been any documented incidents of the Yeti ever attacking a human.  So how does the name “Abominable” relate to the Abominable Snowman?  The Abominable Snowman’s stink!  Yes, according to eye witness accounts, the Yeti has a distinguishable stench!  Ok, now on to the surprise ending and the speculation that makes me a believer:  The Abominable Snowman… is also known as Sasquatch!  Yes, this type of creature has been sighted all around the world in heavily wooded areas and mountains (Except Australia).  As stated in a previous post, the Abominable Snowman is not white in color like common belief, but is instead of a brown color, just like Sasquatch!  So how are they located all around the world if they originated in Asia?  The leading theory is that they crossed the land bridge from Asia to Alaska just like early man!  According to Occultopedia.com, the creature lives in dense forests and mountains because they are evolutionary drop outs and just want to be left alone, at least that is the most supported theory.  Poor Abominable Snowman and Sasquatch!  They just want to be left in peace.

Sasquatch Makes Me a True Believer

The idea that the Abominable Snowman and Sasquatch are of the same species is a powerful concept.  This places the sightings on a global scale for this creature.  The strongest opposing argument is that there is no physical proof that can be agreed upon.  My argument against them states that the world population is scarce in many areas, specifically those areas that this creature has been sighted in.  Many new species are still being discovered, which further adds to my argument that they exist.  Is there solid evidence that that Abominable Snowman exists?  No.  Everything is speculation about eye-witness accounts and footprints.  Although I am a believer, none of this really matters until there is solid evidence that can be agreed upon by the masses.
